The holidays are fast approaching, and it’s easy to get overwhelmed without a budget plan in place. Here are 8 tips to help you budget, so the holiday season is easier on your credit and/or debit cards:
- Set spending limits. Thinking through limits ahead of time (before you start shopping) can ensure that you end the holiday season in a comfortable place, and not overwhelmed by credit card bills.
- Look for the best deals. Before shopping, do a quick search for any coupon codes and sales. There are also apps that can assist with this such as: Ibotta, Rakuten, Retail Me Not, and more.*
- Consider giving the gift of quality time. The holiday season is busy time for everyone. Your loved ones may enjoy spending time together instead of a monetary gift.
- Set aside a “Holiday Fund.” While it may be too late for this holiday season, adding a small amount of money to a savings account each month will help build up a cash supply for next year.
- Make it yourself. Your loved ones may enjoy a homemade gift more than a store bought one because you made it for them. There is so much thought that goes into a homemade gift.
- Instead of doing holiday parties or dinners, organize a volunteering event. It is a great time to give back to your community and any other cause that is important to you.
Don’t let debt become the Grinch that steals your holiday season. Think of sentiment and long-lasting memories over dollar value. Find more tips here: Control Holiday Spending.
